Truth knows no color. No one has a monopoly on it. Everyone has access to it. Frederick Douglass believed this, and risking life and limb, became the first black American journalist with the creation of the anti-slavery North Star newspaper.

Douglass wasn’t afraid to speak or write the truth. He knew it was the only catalyst for freedom. Without it, shackles would remain and the evil institution of slavery would continue to keep humanity in bondage.

Today’s news media fears the truth. And nowhere is truth more vital in bringing liberty than in urban America where physical shackles have been replaced by ideological ones. Since The Radiance Foundation first launched its TooManyAborted.com abortion awareness initiative, I’ve been puzzled, amused, and utterly shocked at the majority of black journalists’ take on the number one killer in the black community—abortion. At every turn, liberal black journalists defend an organization birthed in eugenic racism while claiming it’s not the same organization it was during the heyday of the Eugenics movement. Uhhh, yeah. It’s worse. Back then they peddled birth control as a means to reduce the physically and mentally  disabled, the incarcerated and poorer blacks. Today, it kills them, via abortion, and celebrates it as “reproductive justice”.

During slavery, blacks were propagandized that there was no other way of life and to be content on the plantation. Women were inhumanely bred for profit and their children were often ripped away from them by their slave masters. Today, the abortion industry propagandizes that there’s no other way than sexual promiscuity, then profits by inhumanely ripping children from women’s wombs. The institution of slavery generated billions in profit. The institution of abortion does the same.

And its destruction of human lives (over 15 million in the black community alone, 55 million among all victims nationwide) is aided by an industry whose mission, supposedly, is to deliver the truth. The National Association of Black Journalists, in its Constitution, states: “The purpose of the NABJ shall be to bring about a union of Black journalists dedicated to truth and excellence in the news.” Yet, one can barely find an instance where black media outlets actually speak the truth about abortion and Planned Parenthood. Journalists editorialize the issue and deliver disinformation to the public rendering “news” as nothing more than ad space for Planned Parenthood.

Of course, the fact that the NABJ receives funds from Planned Parenthood and the abortion giant has served as a corporate sponsor of their annual convention and Health Conferences, for years, certainly explains the extreme bias. In fact, Cecile Richards and other Planned Parenthood executives serve as uncontested panelists at NABJ events. Since the NABJ claims it is “dedicated to truth”, we’ve written to them to allow The Radiance Foundation to offer an alternate (and factual) perspective on abortion’s disproportionate impact in the black community. I’m not holding my breath for a response.

Just a small list of titles from black media outlets shows the unapologetic and misinformed abortion advocacy:

Nearly every article about Gosnell blamed the “back-alley” scenario as a “lack of access” issue resulting from regulations. Another article from NABJ’s 2013 “Journalist of the Year”, Roland Martin, exemplifies the organization’s take on abortion: no facts, lots of emotion, and plenty of contorted biblical “justifications” for a “pro-choice” stance. “GOP is Pro-life in the Womb, Not Necessarily After” has become the screed of liberal black journalists who provide no investigation of the issue, merely duplication of Planned Parenthood talking points and Guttmacher (an affiliate funded by Planned Parenthood) distortions.

Frederick Douglass escaped the brutality and dehumanization of slavery. And he dedicated his life to setting others free. The North Star should serve as a template to journalists of any race or ethnicity. Its motto was universal: “RIGHT IS OF NO SEX—TRUTH IS OF NO COLOR—GOD IS THE FATHER OF US ALL, AND ALL WE ARE BRETHREN.”

And though I and others, who defend the dignity of all human life, are daily demonized by liberal media, we know the cause is greater than our personal comfort. As a creative professional, I know the power of the spoken and the written word. I’m encouraged to keep on illuminating this path to freedom by Frederick Douglass’s owns words: “I still see before me a life of toil and trials…but, justice must be done, the truth must be told…I will not be silent.”

And no matter what hell breaks loose, I will never be silent.

The Radiance Foundation exposes the mythology of “back alley” abortions

From the “back alley” to main street, the self-policing abortion industry sets up shops, unaccountable to seemingly anyone, making millions in profit behind closed (and filthy) doors. The landmark ruling of Roe (coupled with Doe v. Bolton) birthed abortionists like Kermit Gosnell, Steve Brigham, Solieman Soli, LeRoy Carhart, James S. Pendergraft and hundreds more across the country. It allowed other abortionists to simply change their geography from the back alley to a storefront. Same folks. Different decade. Gosnell’s case has only shed a sliver of light into what commonly happens across the United States. Contrary to NARAL President, Ilyse Hogue’s, silly and historically ignorant contention that Gosnell is a “peek into the world before Roe v. Wade”, he is the world legitimized, praised and forced upon us by Roe and its worshippers.

Gosnell is a murderer. A jury of Philadelphians convicted him on only 3 out of 4 1^st degree murder charges. According to Grand Jury and court testimony, he killed possibly hundreds of babies born alive, aided by a state regulatory agency that recklessly did nothing for decades. Planned Parenthood Southeast Pennsylvania boasted of knowing of Gosnell’s squalid clinic. They did nothing. The National Abortion Federation inspected the “House of Horrors” and silently rejected Gosnell’s application into their elite world of baby killers. And they did nothing. NARAL knew of Gosnell’s “back-alley” butchery back in 1972 when poor black women (bussed from Chicago) were brutalized by Gosnell and International Planned Parenthood-funded convicted abortionist Harvey Karman in their “supercoil” experiment. NARAL did nothing. The Radiance Foundation discusses that tragic history here, where Gosnell’s heinous actions went ignored and unpunished.

And now NARAL, Planned Parenthood, their Sanger-award-winning media parrots, and liberal feminists blame Gosnell on prolifers. Yes, the very people who try desperately to save women and children through maternity homes, free services at pregnancy medical clinics, adoption, and other acts of love and compassion are the guilty ones. Huffington Post writes of the “rogue abortionist” and gives NARAL the creative space to weave a ludicrous tale of Gosnell as the “back alley” abortionist created by pro-life abortion regulations. Sorry, NARAL. Sorry, Harry Reid. Gosnell was not rogue. He is vogue. The pro-infanticide abortion crowd, whose morality hinges on geography, (whether the baby’s body is a few inches this way or a few inches that way) hates to see the face of a typical abortionist shown to the world, revealing who they truly are. So, Gosnell is our fault? Abortion activists blaming Gosnell on prolifers is about as absurd as saying abolitionists caused slavery.

Failed actions from state medical boards, just as in Pennsylvania with Gosnell, enable these “doctors” of death to return to their dens of squalor and illegal activity. NARAL, when it first started, assured the American public that abortions were “safe” and conducted inspections to prove it (h/t LifeDynamics.com). In fact, the late Dr. Bernard Nathanson, one NARAL’s co-founders, inspected clinic after clinic following the legalization of abortion in New York City in 1970. NARAL never had these foul places shut down. As horrifically revealed in Mark Crutcher’s Lime 5, Dr. Nathanson found filthy clinics from coast to coast – including Gosnell’s partner-in-crime Harvey Karman’s clinic, which was described as “drab, dark, and unsanitary.” NARAL’s Dr. Nathanson then went to work for the Center for Reproductive and Sexual Health (CRASH) in NYC to try to rescue it from the cesspool that it was. The CRASH clinic administrator described the abortionists there as: “atrocious…sadists, drunks, incompetents, sex maniacs, thieves, butchers, and lunatics…”

Hmmmm. Sounds familiar.

After one and a half years of Dr. Bernard Nathanson’s efforts to impose a “professional” and clean killing environment, his attempts failed. (He eventually left and became passionately prolife, revealing the voluminous lies NARAL pumped out to the public about “safe” and legal abortions.) CRASH, on the other hand, eventually crashed. New York City Health Department forced it to close in 1988 following the death of a 19 year old victim due to a botched abortion. The abortion mill was under the medical supervision of abortionist David A. Gluck. Mr. Gluck’s medical license had been previously revoked for 3 years because of felony charges stemming from illegal drug sales used to pay off his gambling debts – according to a 1988 New York Newsday article, entitled “Abortion Clinic Closed After Woman’s Death.” His medical license was revoked, again, but temporarily blocked by a court order. His revocation was based on the illegal sale of prescription drugs, not because women were harmed in his CRASH clinic. In 1992, according to this letter from the New York City Office of Professional Medical Conduct, his license was reinstated. Only two years later, he killed a woman (Alerte Desanges, a 36 year old Haitian mother of three) in a botched abortion at Choices Women’s Medical Center in Queens.

This is all in a day’s work, though, for an abortionist. Today, Dr. David Alan Gluck now runs the Westside Women’s Medical Pavilion abortion center in Manhattan that performs abortions up to 26 weeks. But no worries, he’s “Board Certified”! Despite his felony charges, having presided over one of the filthiest abortion clinics in NYC, and causing the death of a mother in a botched abortion, he’s free and clear. He’s even a member of the National Abortion Federation. Ignored and empowered like Gosnell by state health authorities who apparently have incredibly low standards for “physicians”.

The enforcement of regulations isn’t the problem. That saves lives. It’s the evisceration of these regulations that should cause alarm, like the efforts of Planned Parenthood in NYC (already the abortion capital of the nation). They’re endorsing New York’s Reproductive Health Act that is Governor Cuomo’s attempt to eliminate every state restriction on abortion, including all clinic standards. The abortion giant wants abortion to be classified as “primary care” (no different than treating a cold) and have building code standards (AB980) rescinded in California, according to California Family Alliance. In the state where over 214,000 abortions occur annually (obviously not a lack of access), PPFA is fighting to pass AB154 so that non-doctors can commit abortions in California. Women aren’t at the center of their “back alley” advocacy; they’re just protecting abortion. In defending AB980 and asserting that abortion is the same as primary healthcare, Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California’s chief legal counsel, Beth Parker, wrote: “There is no difference between taking a pill for a cold or taking one to induce an abortion.”

A child being given a cold and flu prescription doesn’t require the same medical attention as a woman who has undergone a life-ending abortion. The American public needs to see the abortion industry’s infatuation with the “back alley” and how they empower Gosnells across the country. Every “back alley” has a front door. And Planned Parenthood is spending (our) millions to make sure those doors stay open for business.

Abortion activists are trying desperately to blame the actions of one of their own on prolifers. The media is spewing the new celebrated talking point that prolife advocates, who peacefully protest or sidewalk counsel, are the reason women were forced to go to Philly’s “House of Horrors”.

But once again, prolifers are forced to help pro-abortion apologists grapple with the facts. Despite existing legislative prolife protections in Pennsylvania and prolife protestors outside of their abortion centers, Planned Parenthood Southeastern Pennsylvania (PPSP) has enjoyed an increasing share of the state’s total abortions, especially in the four counties where its abortion centers are located: Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia.

The majority of abortions in these four counties (where most are committed in poverty-stricken Philadelphia) are carried out by PPSP, which has increased its share of southeast PA’s abortions from 4,790 in 2007 to 10,436 in 2010. That’s a huge increase from 28% to 55% in just three years–all of this while Gosnell was still committing his barbarism at 3801 Lancaster. This isn’t indicative of women being driven away from the largest abortion chain in Philly. No matter the increase or decrease in state abortion statistics, one thing has remained constant with PPSP—its yearly increase in its abortion totals.

According to PPSP’s website, this Planned Parenthood collective has existed in Philadelphia since 1933. Since then, the collective has grown to 17 abortion or abortion-referral centers in the Philadelphia area, many of which provide abortions up to nearly 17 weeks gestation (16 weeks, 5 days). Abortions are legal in PA up to 24 weeks.

So PPSP has been around long before Gosnell set up shop, but we’re supposed to believe that poor women had no other choice?

At least two other abortion centers, Philadelphia’s Women’s Center and Drs. Berger & Benjamin, also commit abortions up to 21-22 weeks. There are 65 PA hospitals, the majority of which are located in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, which are licensed to do abortions.  There’s no shortage of places to go to end the life of an unborn child in southeast PA.

But fear is a better appeal for the abortion industry and its advocates. As long as they keep people from the truth, they can spin their web of deception, catching all who blindly fall into it. For an industry that boasts of its self-policing, it never accepts responsibility for any of the lethal actions, health violations, or criminal behaviors of its most revered members—its abortionists. So, the game of rhetorical distraction, aided by a more than eager mainstream media, tries to blame Gosnell on the handful of peaceful protestors (many of whom are post-abortive women) who exercise their free speech in an attempt to change the mind of the abortion-vulnerable.

Scare. No Matter What. That should be Planned Parenthood’s new slogan. It’s not enough that they demonize any effort to

protect women and young girls from profit-driven shady abortionists, such as those whom Operation Rescue regularly exposes  here and here and here and…well, you get the point.

Dayle Steinberg, in a prideful gaffe (perhaps), boasted of how some of their “clients” would “complain to staff about the conditions” at Gosnell’s abortion mill. “We would always encourage them to report it to the Department of Health.” Wow. She’s really admitting that they knew! And they did nothing…absolutely nothing.

And if prolifers “scaring women” into the arms of Gosnell weren’t enough, the unapologetic abortion crowd also blames the evil Hyde Amendment for somehow compelling women to subject themselves to the horrors of 38^th and Lancaster. So in the inherently contradictory world of “pro-choice” activism, abortion is both a private matter and a public tax (hence the vilification of Hyde protections). Never mind the fact that neither the PA Department of Health, nor the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, provides any information on the race or socio-economic status of women seeking abortions in city of Philadelphia. (The Philadelphia Department of Public Health doesn’t record any abortion data.) That doesn’t stop abortion activists from making up stuff and insisting that poor women (code for mostly black women) are demanding to have taxpayers pay to abort their children. This is the talking point repeated with new fervor to defend and deflect.

Dayle Steinberg, PPSP’s President (who receives a hefty $183k salary) declared such back in 2011 when Gosnell first came into the public’s consciousness: “This care should include Medicaid coverage for abortion services, which would allow women without financial means to schedule appointments at facilities that are clean and professional and offer the highest quality services.”

Planned Parenthood wants to pat itself on the back because in its abortion centers (well, except that squalid Delaware clinic that was just shut down), all human body parts, blood, and other bodily fluids are tidied up nicely because their annual $524.4 million taxpayer funding can pay for the staff and the equipment to cleanly kill its 333,964 human victims per year. And isn’t half a billion more than enough to cover the abortions of those women PPFA and PPSP consider “low-income” and “in-need”? Of course not. The organization birthed in eugenic racism and antipathy toward human disabilities has always hated “charity.”

It’s in their DNA, from their founder Margaret Sanger who considered true charity (in Chapter Five of her self-penned Pivot of Civilization) the “symptom of a malignant disease…instead of decreasing and aiming to eliminate the stocks [of people] that are most detrimental to the future of the race and the world, it tends to render them to a menacing degree dominant.”

Steinberg, and her abortion cohorts don’t get it. Back in January of this year, the PPSP abortion chain president claimed: “During the most recent legislative session in Harrisburg, lawmakers passed and Gov. Corbett signed legislation to impose politically motivated regulations on abortion centers.”

If killing a woman, severing the spines of 7 babies born alive (at least the ones that were known before Gosnell’s trial), and reproductively harming countless other women is what she considers “politically motivated” then, so be it. More “politically motivated” acts should rise up to stop such human atrocities. “Pro-choice” activists are content with death committed in the name of abortion, harm done in the name of medicine, and blame redirected when they can’t defend one of their own.

Little Rock, AR (March 6, 2013) Arkansas Black Americans for Life has partnered with The Radiance Foundation to launch a new billboard/web abortion awareness campaign. The TooManyAborted.com initiative, entitled “Gone”, educates the public about how racial targeting results in the alarming number of abortions in the black community. Five billboards have been placed in Little Rock/North Little Rock for 5 weeks. Little Rock has a remarkable place in civil rights history ending the dehumanization of black Americans by desegregating their schools. The same racist Eugenics movement that implemented “Separate But Equal” policies also birthed the nation’s largest abortion chain–Planned Parenthood. The taxpayer-funded abortion giant has led in taking the lives of over 15 million black babies since 1973. They are irreversibly, gone.

Arkansas Black Americans for Life (BAL), a chapter of Arkansas Right to Life, addresses the number one killer in the black community and exposes the Planned Parenthood Association of Arkansas (formerly the Arkansas Eugenics Association). “Over the years many have fought against injustices contrived to dehumanize, extinguish and deprive anyone of being who they were–a human being with limitless potential to be great,” says Lekita Gaynor, co-chair of ABAL. “However, as light began to shine on us, it darkened on our unborn children who are unable to contend for themselves. If we don’t speak for those who cannot, who will? We are a voice for the voiceless.”

In Arkansas, 38% of the state’s 4,033 abortions are among black women. The black population in Arkansas is 16%. As is typical, nationwide, two of the state’s three abortion clinics are located in 56% and 80% black neighborhoods, while Planned Parenthood claims high black abortion rates are due to “lack of access.” Ryan Bomberger, African-American creator of the TooManyAborted.com campaigns, dismisses the myth: “Planned Parenthood receives half a billion taxpayer dollars and they fail, miserably, but intentionally. They’ve not budged the national unintended pregnancy rate since 1995 while STDs, ‘unplanned’ pregnancies, new HIV infections and abortions soar in the black community.” Using Planned Parenthood’s own annual reports Bomberger points out: “They’ve killed more children, of any race, than ever before in their history—333,964. Nothing else they do generates that kind of blood money. Abortion has made them a billion dollar empire.”

Arkansas Black Americans for Life and The Radiance Foundation advocate for the life-affirming alternatives to abortion (adoption and parenting), family-strengthening initiatives, and the Pregnancy Care Center resources that exist to help those facing unplanned pregnancies.
